Argylle Movie Review- The Worst Movie I’ve seen in Theaters in Years.

So this movie was one of the movies I think I was most excited about this year... but I didn't get to see it the week it opened and reviews for this movie were pretty bad. I still went in with an open mind watching it but... this movie was pretty bad. Like... this might have been the worst movie I've seen in theaters in years.

The movie starts out a little weird... it just seemed like it should have been a second movie in the Argylle series or something and technically it sort of is part of a series that exists already... which is kind of a spoiler- but it might be something you expect if you're familiar with the director's other work. And I do like the series it's a part of... so I would still be open to watching a sequel to this movie even though I didn't really like this movie that much.

So with that being said: Why didn't I like this movie? This movie had potential to give us a very strong and very cool female main character. With 2023 giving us so many girl boss movies- it seemed like a give in that this would be similar in that respect... but no. The first half of this movie is just Sam Rockwell fighting the bad guys while Bryce Dallas Howard holds his hand and panics. That's my main problem with this movie. From pretty much the beginning- I had like no interest in the two main characters.

There was also a lot of unnecessary stuff in this movie that kind of felt like filler... Samuel L Jackson was in this movie for no reason and he has a whole monologue about grapes... so much of this movie was just BAD like that.

The movie does kind of go off the rails in the second half of the movie and that's when I started to kind of like it a little better. There were some twists that could have been a little better had there been some set up in the beginning... and I don't really mean spell it out for us set up... I just like it when movies have a line of dialogue that sets something up... that way when you watch the movie a second time you see it and go "oh that makes sense." This didn't have that- at least not as far as I could tell.

Anyway while this movie did get a little off the rails- it did remind me of the spy movies I grew up with in the early 2000's. Every movie in the 2000's was a

spy movie... or had some scene or reference to a spy movie. And not all of the 2000's spy movies were that good either- but they were all pretty fun to watch anyway... and this seemed like one of those types of movies... it was just a little more frustrating.

This movie also had a marketing gimmick where they tied a book written by Bryce Dallas Howard's character... and that doesn't make much sense because the book and movie were released in the same month. I don't feel the need to read the book after seeing the movie. It doesn't add anything.

My other big complaint about the movie was the cat.

They just kind of added the cat because Taylor Swift has a cat carrier like the one in the movie. The cat does nothing for the movie... and I don't think the writers of the movie even care about cats at all. This movie felt like it wasn't written by a Pet person... and I don't really like people that don't like pets. I'm not sure that any of this is true... but I kind of got that feeling and it's something I kind of avoid.

Anyway- that is everything I have to say about this movie... I would still say to watch it if you like spy movies because there were some enjoyable parts but overall not a very good movie.

So have you seen it? Are you going to see it? Did you like it! Let me know!

Bye!

-Shannon
