All The Broadway Shows I’ve Seen
So on Saturday I will be seeing Hadestown and I thought I would go over all the Broadway shows that I've seen so far and what I thought of them! Over all I really liked all of these plays and I would recommend them if you're thinking of seeing a show and these are still playing or a local theater is playing them... a lot of these plays have movies as well and checking those out would be good. These are good shows!
Seussical the Musical
The first play I ever saw on Broadway was Seussical and it was because I loved Aaron Carter and Aaron Carter was playing Jojo the Who. He did a great job! It was really fun to see your favorite singer in a broadway show. The woman that played The Cat in The Hat was good too- she was famous for playing Peter Pan on broadway... I forget her name... and I could look it up... but it was Cathy something... so yeah. She was great! Fun and Funny show and a great first play!
Into The Woods
I think we got Tickets from one of the Ticket Booths in New York here one day when we had friends from England visiting? Or one day when we took a family friend to New York or something. This was a little bit scary for me when I was little... its got a good message- but it is very dark... A lot of our production had some funny moments... like the wicked stepsisters dancing like Stevie Wonder after they were blinded. Vanessa Williams was the Witch in the showing we saw and she did a great job. She's so pretty and she really is a great singer.
The Producers
I was way to young for this play when I saw it- but it was okay a lot of it went over my head. This we saw for my sister's birthday one year and Nathan Lane is kind of famous for joining plays and then... not performing in them all that often- so we saw his understudy Brad Oscar- who did a great job. Matthew Broderick was also headlining the show when we saw it- so we did get to see him at least... but my sister really wanted to see Nathan Lane and he wasn't in it. I still thought it was really funny and I love Mel Brooks... so I'm happy that I got to see this on Broadway.
Wicked
I think the next play that I saw on Broadway was Wicked. We saw this on my Eighth Grade class trip... this was the one play everybody really really wanted to watch and it was fun to see a musical with all my friends from school. I think I want to see this play again because it was really good!
Avenue Q
I think this was the next broadway show that I watched... Avenue Q had announced its closing and my sister and I were really upset because we wanted to see it... so she got us tickets and we saw it right before it was supposed to close. I think it either moved theaters or is now playing off Broadway- but it was strange that a Tony Winning Musical ended up kind of getting cut because of the Recession- people weren't seeing broadway as much and they didn't really have any celebrity casting or broadway legends they could cast here.
In The Heights
This was the first Lin Manuel Miranda Musical that either of us saw- obviously this was the first one released... I don't remember that much of the production... but I believe the ending of the play is sadder than the ending of the movie. We also kind of got our seats upgraded when we saw this because no one was in the seats a little closer than ours- so they moved us... but the sound quality unfortunately wasn't as good. This is still a great musical and I would recommend seeing it if it tours or there is a production or check out the movie.
Chicago
This is a musical I saw for my friends High School Graduation Party. This was really fun. We had a good dinner... possibly at Carmines? I don't really remember but- we also saw this and we took a limo to get there and home so that was really fun! The movie Chicago is so good and I've seen it so many times... I don't necessarily think the play is better than the movie... but I would 100% see the play again, and I think both are worth seeing. I love the songs from this movie!
Elf The Musical
I saw the first 2 productions of this musical and this is the only musical I've seen more than once. I loved this show! I wish they still played it on broadway at Christmas time- but I think local theaters play with it too. The first time I saw this musical my sister and I saw it on Christmas and we ate at the rotating restaurant on top of the Mariott Marquis and the next production we saw was on her birthday a couple years later. Both Buddy's were really good, we really loved all the songs in the play and all the changes- and similarities- that they had from the play. Over all we just really liked this!
Something Rotten!
This is a play I really wanted to see and I ended up seeing it as a birthday present one year. I went with my sister and my best friend. We ate at a really good French restaurant nearby. It was a fun day and we did get to see the original cast! Brad Oscar was in this musical too as Notradamas! It was really funny, the storyline was great. The Shakespeare jokes were really fun... over all we really liked it!
Hamilton
After seeing Something Rotten- I had been more interested in listening to broadway soundtracks and the musical with the best soundtrack was of corse Hamilton. My sister got tickets to surprise me for my birthday one year- I saw it with my sister... like A WEEK after my sister just gave birth- which was insane... so we didn't do anything else but my sister was not going to give up her seat for Hamilton just because my niece came early! Lol. I definitely want to see it again- but I'm so happy its on Disney Plus for everyone to get a chance to see and enjoy. But I do have to say- I loved the cast that I saw and it wasn't the original cast- but I did think they all did just as good a job if not better than the original cast. The guy I saw as Hamilton was the Sunday Hamilton when Javier was leading as Hamilton... so he was kind of an understudy- I believe he was also Burr's understudy and I think he had to play Hamilton and Burr in the same show or on the same day or something crazy like that... so the man has a lot of range and talent.
Beetlejuice
When my boyfriend and I heard this was closing- we knew we had to see it! He has a friend that loves Beetlejuice- so we went with him... it was such a great show. Alex Brightman was an amazing Beetlejuice! I wish they would do this musical instead of a Beetlejuice sequel!
And soon Hadestown will be on this list too! I'm really excited about it! I Love the soundtrack!
Bye!
