30 Thursday: 30 Favorite Movies
Alright- so this is my first month as a 30 year old... I’m going to start 30 Thursdays… and today I’m going to talk about 30 of my favorite movies… now I’m not sure I have a total number 1 favorite movie… I’m not even sure these are FAVORITES on the list
1) Addams Family Values- Okay so if you had to ask me which of these movies I enjoy watching the most… it’s probably Addams Family Values. Actually it might be tied with my next one and the next one might be a little above but… Addams family Values is really really good. The Thanksgiving scene, Debbie, the baby Pubert… theres just so much… it’s such a fun and funny movie. I’m sad I didn’t watch it this Halloween season, but I’ll probably watch it for Thanksgiving.
2) Home Alone 2: Lost In New York- This movie is SOOOO funny. I love the mafia movie scene where Tim Curry and the Hotel staff are listening on the other side of the door… I always rewind that part… I love when Kevin calls the hotel and says “this is Peter McAlister, The Father.” I just laugh so much at this movie and I have a huge smile on my face! This is a great movie.
3) Monster’s Inc- Okay the first Pixar movie on the list- but not the last… I really loved this when I was a kid… this was my favorite movie for the longest time. I’d still probably say it’s my favorite… I just really like it.
4) Forgetting Sarah Marshall- it’s been a while since I’ve seen this one so I’m not sure if it’d still be as high up on my list… this was kind of the first movie I was like “wow- can I like a movie more than Monster’s Inc?” then I saw The Hangover and at one time Role Models topped that list… but those aren’t on this top 30 list now... but this one I think deserves a spot on my top 30 list even though it’s been a while since I’ve seen it.
5) My Big Fat Greek Wedding- The First and Second ones- both of these movies are great. The second one is a little funnier and it was fun to see in theaters at the time because my sister was engaged and it was just a few months before the wedding. The first movie I watched like EVERY DAY as a kid and memorized the lines- I still know all of them. Nia Vardalos is like a hero to me… I really love this movie!
6) La La Land- Again- it’s been a while since I’ve seen this movie and it felt like I connected to it a lot when I first saw it... now I’m not sure I would connect to it at all really but it’s still a great movie and I feel like it deserves to be on the top 30 list for sure.
7) Parasite- This movie is great! Bong Joon Ho is an amazing director and this is the best movie I’ve seen of his so far. Try not to find out anything about this movie… it’s just really good. Theres a really good twist. Actually THE BEST movie twist I’d say.
8) Soul- My next favorite Pixar Movie. I think this is partially because it was the first new movie in a while to be released with the pandemic… but this is definitely one of my favorites. I still think about it a lot. I feel like I can relate to it because… I’m not sure if my job that I have right now is my life’s purpose… but I’m okay with that and I’m not sure my life’s purpose revolves around work in the first place. It’s a beautiful movie.
9) The Princess Diaries- A childhood favorite that still holds up! This is probably my favorite live action Disney Movie and… I will watch it anytime it’s on and be thoroughly entertained. This is a fun one for sure!
10) John Wick- As far as favorite movie Series goes- I really like the John Wick movies! John Wick Chapter 1 is probably the best… but Chapter 3 was great and exciting too. Keanu Reeves is fantastic and these are just action packed and really fun to watch.
11) Happy Death Day- This is a little bit of a guilty pleasure that I just watched recently but… this is a really fun series. I was really surprised by how good these movies were… the first movie is better but the second one adds a nice level of Depth. Really good.
12) Despicable Me- Another one of my favorite series… these are just fun to watch and they really make me smile any time I watch it. This is just fun and I love the minions.
13) Tangled- I could probably just do a whole list on the 30 best Disney movies… but I love Tangled. Rapunzel is probably the Disney princess I relate most too.
14) Aladdin- This was the first movie I ever saw and it’s still a favorite of mine!
15) Kill Bill- I’m not sure if this will be the only Tarantino movie on the list or not… I’m not sure if this is my favorite Tarantino movie or not… but both of these movies are really great and fun to watch. They’re really suspenseful and I recommend checking it out!
16) Star Wars- The newer movies… I like but… even though this is in no particular order - I kind of put this lower on the list because of the newer movies... if that makes sense. They’re still good but… I don’t know. I need to watch all of them again…
17) Muppets Christmas Carol- I love the muppets, I love Christmas… and this is the best Muppet movie.
18) Mary Poppins- This isn’t a Christmas movie- but this is a movie id like to watch every year… preferably around Christmas.
19) Mars Attacks- It’s been a while since I’ve seen this… but this is probably my favorite Tim Burton movie and it TERRIFIED me as a kid… so it definitely stood out to me and it makes this list for sure.
20) Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse- Yes. This movie is something special and… yeah.
21) Chicago- It’s been a few years since I’ve seen this… but this is a fun movie and one that really got me into movies and into musicals.
22) A Marriage Story- This is one I thought would be too sad to watch… but it was actually really great and I think Adam Driver is my favorite actor. I’d watch him in just about anything-he’s very entertaining.
23) Love Actually- I watched this during Quarantine and… there’s a lot to this movie that I didn’t notice when I first saw it… it’s a good one to watch and… I wonder where everyone is now.
24) The Holiday- I watched this a few times during Quarantine and… it’s just a fun watch. It’s a nice cozy movie… it’s funny and cute. There are problems with it and its probably not really a favorite… but I’m running out of things for this list and I do love it. 30 is a lot!
25) Hocus Pocus- I like this more than a lot of the movies on this list… but I wasn’t going to put this on the list because I don’t know… it just doesn’t seem like it should be a favorite favorite… but it is. I love it. I didn’t watch it enough this year- so I might like it better next year.
26) Get Out/ Us- I’m putting both of these on the list cause I keep going back and forth between which one is my favorite. Us is a LOT like Parasite- to the point where they want to make an American Parasite movie and they shouldn’t… this movie is great and it’s similar in theme and in tone. It’s good. And Get Out… it’s so scary and so good. I gotta watch these again.
27) Pulp Fiction- This is a weird but fun movie. Also possibly my favorite Tarantino movie… I should watch this again too… it’s great!
28) Silence of The Lambs- I just watched this one a few days ago… but it’s a really well done movie and it just kind of sticks with you. I like it a lot.
29) Knives Out- This is a fun movie… i don’t know that it’s really deserving of being on this list- but it was probably my favorite that I’ve seen recently and I’m hoping the sequels are just as good.
30) Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle- Yep this made the list somehow. I was going to toss in a cheesy title at the end just for fun but… I actually do really like Harold and Kumar and it was a movie I liked a lot growing up. It’s not the best movie… probably doesn’t deserve to be on the list- but I saw it a long time ago and I still love it.
okay… that is everything!
Bye! -Shannon
