13 Days of Halloween: American Horror Story Double Feature Review

So... I didn't have high hopes for this season... then the 2 part premiere was really good... but then it got bad again. I feel like I've been kinda burned by American Horror Story. I didn't like 1984, there were a couple of good episodes of American Horror Stories but for the most part it was complete garbage and... this season was sooo disappointing.

All of the reviews I saw didn't realize it was the end of the episode- let alone the finale when the episode ended. They had 4 or 5 writers on the episode... If they had taken the black pill... they would have turned into vampires... it was bad.

I think both Red Tide and Death Valley started out really well and exciting. The first two episodes of Red Tide I thought were like OLD American Horror Story where it was fun, the characters were kind of complicated and you didn't exactly like them but didn't want to root against them... the concept of the black pills was fun and unique and it actually scared me a little bit... which isn't easy. Overall it was just really good.

Death Valley started out a little cheesy but I thought it was even scarier- until the second part of the episode really... and I liked the first 2 episode and I appreciated the Duality between the past black and white events and the present day abduction story. It was fun to see the differences, it was interesting if you know anything about American History... and overall it was just fun... for 2 episodes.

I thought the end of Red Tide was bad... but I think there were 3 or 4 solid episodes. The episode Gaslighting really frustrated me because... I just didn't like that they did that to Lily Rabe who was a character I actually kind of liked. I was expecting something more to happen with her or for her to end up being a really talented designer...the WHOLE REASON for Harry and Alma being there is because of her... it just kind of infuriated me.

Ohhh also they brought Macully Culkin in the season and he did... nothing! He was great at first but I feel like they just didn't give him anything... and I'd say maybe they didn't give Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Denis O'hare enough either. I liked all of their characters but... they didn't really have them in the show enough for them to be interesting or fun at all. Also Lark was a cool character... but they barely had her in the show. I guess it's a good thing someone with a medical degree in dentistry took a black pill... I mean what a convenience for all of the other characters that they could actually get vampire fangs because of that. Right? Right? Yeah...

Death Valley... there was too much going on. And I have to say I really like Neal McDonough... The guy that played Nixon was... spot on. The past storyline was something interesting that they were going somewhere with... and it kind of ended abruptly and with no real resolution. There was absolutely NO resolution in the modern day abduction part of the story and... yeah I have no hope for humanity at all after watching that season and that ending that was barely an ending.

I was also hoping there would be some sort of connection to a past season... or at least a connection to Red Tide in Death Valley. It would have made for a little bit of a better season. I'm assuming The Chemist was a witch but they never say it. I would assume the other alien babies from Asylum would be involved... There should have been SOMETHING more. I feel like I'm not asking for a lot- they just need something else.

Overall... I think this was maybe my least favorite season. I don't think it was as bad as American Horror Stories, but it might have been worse than 1984. I just... no didn't love it. Not at all.

So yeah. Unfortunately I didn't want to put this review after the Mom and Dad and Trick r Treat reviews because those were kind of like "Uhhh I didn't like this movie at all." but... yeah. I didn't totally dislike this one but... it wasn't great.

I think the next couple days I'll be revisiting some movies that I already have seen and that I know I like so...yeah there's that.
